Considerations before you Work on a broken iPhone
Replacing an iPhone logic board or working with the display assembly for example can be quite challenging. The process of working with faulty iPhones requires some considerations before you start. Having the right tools, parts and know-how is imperative.
Consider where you stand before diving in to attempt some of the more challenging processes which deal with the iPhone LCD or iPhone logic board. These are internal parts which require dismantling the iPhone, and then putting everything back together again in the same fashion as it came originally from the factory. Many of these steps will require a great deal of caution and care while you are working on the device.
The iPhone display assembly for example has many parts which could require replacement. While the steps will vary to some degree depending on which iPhone model you are working on, there will be several similarities. Remember, details count. The different screws which need to be removed should be kept in an organized manner since there are various sizes of them within each iPhone. There are several cables that should be treated with care since there is a very limited amount of room that you are working within the device during removal process.
It is especially important to use caution when the display assembly is still connected to the device because there are cables which need to be dealt with first. The cables should be disconnected in the proper order. Often the first ribbon cable should be very carefully removed, and then the other cables will be easier to disconnect. Use the tab if it exists on the particular iPhone model to help release the ribbon cable. These should take place just before removing the iPhone display assembly if that is part of the project which you are working on. Again, there is little room for error in these processes so you should have patience.
Even lifting the iPhone LCD out of the assembly requires care since it is a very tight fit. There are adhesives which will have to be dealt with on the touchscreen yet household devices such as a hair dryer are often an adequate method of heating this up until you can separate the touchscreen from the plastics. This goes to show that the ability to use your imagination does not hurt during these processes.
Keep in mind that these steps will have to be repeated in reverse order when you are putting the mobile phone parts back together again. For this reason it is a good idea to have some adhesive readily available and to have kept the various screw sizes organized. Additionally it is important, and quite tricky, to re-route the cables the same way as they were from the factory. This prevents pinching or even severing the cables so it is important nonetheless.
Consider the level of detail involved in working on the inside of the iPhone ahead of time, and you will be all the more prepared for the specific tasks at hand.
